Blue Lagoon, Gozo and Crystal Lagoon cruise: the classic full day

Most Blue Lagoon boats do one thing: sail to Comino, anchor, sail back. This route treats the lagoon as the headline of a bigger day. On the way out you pass the Santa Maria Battery, Elephant Rock and a string of sea caves cut into Comino's cliffs, and the route continues to Gozo with a pass through Mgarr harbour before turning back.

The boat itself carries more comfort than the price suggests: an upper deck with sunbeds, deck chairs, freshwater showers and proper toilets. On the 9am and 1pm departures there is a water slide off the deck, which children treat as the highlight of the entire holiday.

The day starts with a relaxed cruise up Malta's northern coastline towards Comino. First big stop is the Blue Lagoon, with time to swim, float and explore; the water over the white sand bank between Comino and Cominotto is the clearest you will find anywhere in the islands.

After the lagoon the boat moves around Comino's coast for the Crystal Lagoon and the caves, then crosses the channel to Gozo. You get the harbour views without the logistics of a separate ferry ticket. Optional extras on the day include a powerboat cave trip for about 10 euro, and drinks and snacks are sold on board.

June and September give warm sea and lighter crowds. In July and August book the 9am departure: you reach the lagoon before the day peaks, and the slide is included on that run. The 1pm departure suits slow mornings; the 5pm run turns it into a golden-hour cruise but shortens swimming time.
